 My brothers named me Jed. They were 10 and 11 when I surprised my
parents, so naming me was their consolation prize. Actually, Jed was their
second choice. They wanted to name me Joe. But being from Wisconsin, and Joe McCarthy having suddenly become unpopular, our dad flatly rejected Joe.
While mulling alternatives, my brothers were watching a third-rate western.
One of the secondary cowboys had a cool name -- Jed.

 I'll be looking forward to checking in and getting to know you and the rest of the jeds better. You've made my day. And I really do admire the entire site --
wish I would have thought of it.
